Cheddar Steam Club Ltd

Passionate about model boats and model railways.

We are a friendly, social modelling club, enthusiastic about boats and trains. New members of all ages are most welcome.

We are located on the Western edge of Cheddar village in Somerset, with Cheddar Gorge providing our backdrop, making us one of the most attractive and peaceful clubs in the South West

Boats

The club runs all types of model boats with the exception of IC powered models or high speed racing craft that are banned by the club for safety and noise considerations. Deep-keeled sailing boats may have a problem at the edge of the pond because the pond shallows down at the sides. We have a sunken launch area that makes it super easy and convenient to launch all types of model boats onto the water.

We have a track layout with three large loops and a central steaming bay and a station aptly named ‘Cheddar Halt’. The three track layouts are SM32mm, 45mm garden gauge and 45mm gauge one. The layout is suitable for self-propelled steam and self-propelled battery powered locomotives. The track layout does not support ‘track pick up’ models.

Trains

We have a 5” ‘ride on’ railway track located to the south of our premises with it’s own station and platform area. There are a few steam up bays for steam powered models but the track can also accommodate battery powered locos. The carrying of a passenger that is extra to the driver is not permitted due to safety and insurance limitations.
